"American Good Humor Man" from Carpinteria to Europe

From: Larry Nimmer

Date: March 23, 2007

Subject: “Experiments in American Good Humor” performed in Europe

In order to spread goodwill from the citizens of the United States, “Experiments in American Good Humor” will be “performed” in European public locations by Larry Nimmer, an American concept artist and media producer. Starting on March 29, Nimmer will travel to England, France, Spain, Mexico and Texas, returning home to Southern California on April 9, 2007. His “efforts” are to convey goodwill from Americans to people in foreign lands.

Nimmer was inspired by the current state of world politics and the Good Humor Man who delivered ice cream in the 1950’s, a former staple of American culture. Nimmer is taking the opportunity of to experiment in American goodwill while visiting his son in Spain.

In order to orient his potential “customers”, Nimmer will wear symbols that identify himself as an American, as well as somebody who favors peace. The planned experiments include:

- Smiling to passersby

- Giving out flowers

- Giving out balloons to kids

- Record video messages from passersby that Nimmer will post on YouTube for them to see at a later date. Nimmer will also e/mail the participants the YouTube web link.

- Giving out free wish tickets to passersby. The tickets say, “One Wish Comes True Upon Burning” in English, French and Spanish. The tickets will also have directions to see the video clips on YouTube.

- Record street musicians and performers and post them on YouTube.

- Record karaoke singers in Karaoke bars and post them on YouTube.

- Open doors for people in a busy locations such as a department store

- Compliment people on their good traits

- Pick up trash

- Do the American “Dance for Peace” (see below)

- These efforts will be promoted to the local media

In addition to the above activities, Nimmer will perform an “American Dance for Peace” in Paris and Madrid. In Paris, he will dance from the Eiffel Tower to the Pompidou Center. In his Good Humor Man white outfit, he will leave from the northwest side of the Eiffel Tower at 10:30 am on Sunday, April 1 and start East along the Seine. An example of an earlier Nimmer “American Dance for Peace” can be seen on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=poc38ruqhrs . (That 12 mile, 6 hour dance was done on December 31, 2006, from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara, California.)

Another pre-planned Parisian event will be at the Place Des Vosges’ fountain on March 31 at 10 am where Nimmer will experiment with various goodwill gestures.

In Madrid, a pre-planned activity is outside the main entrance to the Prado Museum at 1:30pm on April 4.

In some cities, including Paris, Nimmer will also throw a dart at a City map to choose random locations to spread his goodwill. In other places, Nimmer will choose locations where people congregate and are not in too much of a hurry.

The results of his experiments in American Good Humor will be posted on YouTube at www.YouTube/AmericanGoodHumor , starting April 16, 2007. Nimmer hopes that his modest efforts will encourage other Americans to be Good Humor Men (and women and children) throughout the world.
